Dear Moms and Dads ..........I find this invaluable!
My son, 12 years old Forrest is invited to his friend's older brother's birthday party at the creek. We are running a bit late to get there and he says,
"I hope I'm not missing anything at the party?" Deep sweet sigh. He's so like me as a child.
There are almost twenty high school boys and girls lined up and down the creek. Some are in line for the rope swing which plummets right into the creek. Others are wearing their teen-age attire trying to fit in. And Forrest, and his friend, Kai and the very brave parents.
I watch my son run down the steep, rocky hill dancing around trees on the path to the creek. As he
approaches the chilly, yet welcoming creek below, Giselle, the Mom greets Forrest. She takes his birthday gift and his bag to put with the rest and then returns like the perfect caring Mom.
This sweet Mom of 19, for the day any way, proceeds to loving put sun screen on my son's little cheeks before he anxiously answers the sound of the creek. It's calling him to come play. Forrest is so excited to be swimming at the creek with all the teen-agers.
I realize these few moments of tenderness are what, "It Takes a Tribe" truly means.
Thanks from my heart Giselle.
